Denise aka Coffee

Your personal coach

When the volcano erupted and I learned that something sexual happened to my children I was overwhelmed by their behaviors and the authorities including detectives and child protective service agencies. I was greatly disturbed how a mother facing the things I was facing was allowed to just spin in circles alone while carrying such extreme pain of her own and her children’s while still needing to work, provide food, shelter, and all the responsibilities of a normal day.

When we became healthier we started Coffee & Cocoa and story after story was similar to what I experienced from friends, family, and authorities. Cocoa and I are no longer shocked by the different ways that survivors are left to walk alone or the horrific things that are said to them by family, friends, and authorities. They all walk away and continue life, while we as survivors are left carrying more than we can handle.

I became so passionate about changing the ways that survivors are left to deal with the pain that was caused by another, by the way that many abusers are allowed to continue to perpetrate abuse while authorities know that they are guilty, and about the ways our communities refuse to acknowledge or talk about a pandemic that has been around for thousands of years. Our child survivors grow up and try to survive through adulthood and yet they never received healing.

Coffee & Cocoa continues to educate around the world and encourage others to find their voice. Now the TWC Clubhouse takes it steps further to healing individuals and communities in all areas of trauma because we all have pains that we need to walk through even if we are not a survivor of child sexual abuse.

Together We Walk. Together We Heal. Together We Stand . Together We Can.

Testimonials

Denise Mercer is someone using her voice to help others on their healing journey and bring awareness to the crime of childhood sexual abuse. As a fellow advocate I am honored to know Denise and see how her work is helping bring conversations to this important topic.

- Elizabeth Sullivan, Founder & CEO

I have had the pleasure of working beside Denise in an alternative work setting. Denise worked with primarily at-risk students who often struggled with behavioral and emotional disorders. I have watched Denise meet each student on their individual level and address their individual needs. She processed with them, supported them, and advocated for them like they were each her own child. Her knowledge of behavioral and therapeutic intervention coupled with her passion for helping today’s youth makes Denise a wonderful asset to helping anyone who needs extra support and someone who truly believes in them!

- Jennifer Bender

I have only come to know Denise over the last year, but right from the start we had a special connection. She is one of those rare individuals that puts you at ease with her humour, her compassion, and her ability to relate to hardships that we have all endured. I feel so blessed to be able to call her my friend.

- Isana Wild

In the year I have partnered with Denise Mercer, I have been impressed with her commitment to the cause of child sexual abuse prevention, her tireless advocacy on the part of child survivors and their families, and the warm and welcoming way in which she conducts her live sessions. Denise puts herself on the frontlines, sharing her experience and perspectives on the prevention of sexual violence and the manner in which it affects surviviors. She is strong, articulate, and a force to be reckoned with in our movement to end sexual violence!

Suzanne Isaza, Founder & Co-Director

Denise has an aptitude towards empathy and a natural awareness of an individual situation… both qualities are essential when seeking advice from another.
